Days of hope. The Ukrainian president, Yanukovych, travelled to Vilnius for the European summit. Perhaps he would change his mind and sign the association agreement after all? Could it be that the protesters had made a difference? At Independence Square, protesters danced to beats blaring from an improvised sound system. Couples with glowing, expectant faces huddled in blankets to keep warm. The long week had sapped my energy. E and M finally crashed at 3 a.m.. President Yanukovych didn’t sign. The protesters’ cause was lost.
